Another uninspiring
performance saw Maryhill
succumb to their third
successive league
defeat, leaving them
pointless at the foot of
the table.
The apprehension
of the Maryhill support
following the last
league game against Port
Glasgow was exacerbated
after only fourteen
minutes when Phil Hughes
waltzed through the
Maryhill defence, and
fired the ball past Mark
Wilson. The home side
looked likely to add to
their score, with
Maryhill turning in a
lacklustre display,
almost totally devoid of
menace. Surprisingly,
they did manage to
equalise after 28
minutes, but fittingly
the goal was not scored
by a Maryhill player.
Mark Sideserf's corner
from the left caused
havoc in the Thorniewood
defence and keeper Danny
Gallagher ended up
putting the ball into
the net.The home side
did not take long to
regain their lead
however, when Mark Daly
beat a hesitant Mark
Wilson to the ball to
head home four minutes
before the break.

The second half
was similar to the
first, drab and dismal,
in keeping with the
weather. Maryhill drew
level for the second
time when John
Cunningham outjumped the
Thorniewood defence to
head into the net from
another Mark Sideserf
corner. Any hopes that
Maryhill might get their
first point of the
season were hastily
dispelled only six
minutes later when the
home side's trialist
striker took advantage
of the gaping hole in
the Maryhill defence to
set upJohn Fallon, who
sent a crashing shot
into the net for a goal
worthy of winning any
match. Indeed it was to
be the only moment of
real skill evident in
the entire match. A
couple of minutes later,
Ryan Scobie rather
stupidly got involved
with Kevin
O'Neill,eventually
shoving him to the
ground, leaving the
referee little option
but to show him a red
card.
