Maryhill  v. Yoker
4 - 1

12th August 2009

Three goals in the last sixteen minutes earned Maryhill their first win of the season in what was, effectively , a nothing at stake match.

The opening exchanges were fairly even , with Ryan Scobie blasting over for Maryhill after being set up by Mark Stanley, then Nicky Hannaway should have scored for the visitors, but shot past from six yards. A couple of free kicks from ex Maryhill player Mark McManus came close for Yoker, and a powerful effort from Ross Barr was just inches wide for Hill. Maryhill went ahead after 28 minutes when Barr scored his first competitive goal for the club. His 20 yard shot did not appear too promising, but it seemed to deceive Ross Clark in the Yoker goal, and ended up in the net. Yoker hit back, and a good shot on the turn from James Strain scraped the crossbar. Gary McGroarty then had a good try well saved by Maryhill's trialist keeper just before the break.

        Half Time - Maryhill 1   Yoker  0

Seven minutes into the second period the visitors got what was probably a deserved equaliser. A pass from McManus into the penalty area caused confusion in the home defence, and Strain took advantage to fire home from close range. Ross Barr had another couple of good tries, and a Ryan Scobie shot was blocked on the line before Maryhill took the lead for the scond time. Again it was Barr who was on target, and this time his blistering effort following good work from Craig Ferguson, gave Clark no chance. In the final fifteen minutes Maryhill dominated with a display of impressive football. The trialist sub headed home from a perfect Mark Sideserf cross, and in injury time Ryan Scobie made it four from the penalty spot. The award was given when Yoker keeper Clark brought down Scobie inside the box. Despite the fact that it appeared that a goal scoring opportunity had been denied, no card was shown to the keeper by referee Steven McFaulds, who otherwise  handled the game in a very efficient manner.
