Irvine Meadow  v. Maryhill
4 -1
17th January 2009

Maryhill were knocked out of the Scottish Cup by a much stronger and more experienced team.

With a strong wind behind them, Maryhill more than held their own in the first half, and were perhaps a little unfortunate to be behind at the interval. Sharper and more clinical  finishing  by the home side, however, was the main difference between the teams, and although they had only three real efforts of note in the first 45 minutes, two of them found the net. Docherty fired home from close range after 24 minutes, but Bryan Smith equalised for Hill just four minutes later, when he met a Donnie Wilson Cross at the far post to steer the ball past Wardrope in the home goal. Alan McFadden's 25 yard effort skimmed the bar, before John Paul Boyle put Meadow ahead just before the break.

The second half was a vastly different affair, with Meadow dominating from start to finish, and using the wind advantage to much better effect than Maryhill had done in the first half. Two goals from Chris Strain in the 54th and 68th minutes sealed a comfortable and deserved victory .
