Cumbernauld  v. Maryhill
2 - 1

19th September 2009

Yet another abysmal performance from Maryhill saw them join Royal Albert and Newmains as  the only teams in the entire West Region without a point after five games.

Despite the fact that this was a top versus bottom clash, anyone not familiar with the two sides would have been hard pressed to determine which was which, both teams being almost equally inept. A claim by the home side for a penalty when the ball struck Martin McGoldrick's hand, and a close range header from one of Maryhill's four trialists, were the only incidents of note in the opening half hour. Another of the trialists shot narrowly past for Maryhill, and for Cumbernauld a powerful header from Hill came close. The home side took the lead ten minutes from the break when Danny Burns cut through the Maryhill defence and shot past Chris Calder.

Half Time - Cumbernauld 1  Maryhill 0

The second period was as drab and devoid of excitement as the first, with only two incidents worthy of mention. First Cumbernauld's James Steele was sent off by referee Martin McGuinness for a reckless challenge on Chris McKee, then seven minutes from the end a well struck free kick from Phil Barclay sealed the points for Cumbernauld.
