Maryhill V Benburb
5 - 0

20th April 2009

Well, it was a pleasant sunny evening, but there is not really much more that can be said about the first 45 minutes of this match. The hard, dry  playing surface made good football difficult, and there was really very little difference between the teams, apart from the fact that Maryhill scored twice. In the second minute Bryan Smith put Maryhill ahead with his third goal in two games, and just before half time Willie Sawyers scored from the penalty spot after he had been fouled by Alan Kayes.

Half  Time -  Maryhill  2   Benburb  0

Two minutes into the second half, the game was virtually over as a contest when Sawyers got his second and Maryhill's third. A corner from James McLernon was met by Mark Sideserf who headed goalward, with Sawyers on hand to head the ball past Joe Ghattas in the Benburb goal. The visitors visibly wilted at this point as Maryhill dominated until the end. They added two further goals midway through the half from a well struck free kick from McLernon, Hill's most effective player on the night, and a Mark McManus close range shot, after the Benburb defence had got themselves in a terrible muddle, failing to clear a Max Asante cross.
