Maryhill v.
Forth Wanderers
1-1
28th November 2009
1-1
28th November 2009
Two injury time goals ensured that neither of these two teams will progress to the fourth round of the Scottish Cup until after next week's replay at Kingshill Park in Forth.
The first half was totally dominated by Maryhill, but they failed to capitalise, and the score remained blank at the interval. Ryan Scobie had a couple of good efforts, a Peter Fraser effort struck the crossbar, and a Paddy Gallagher header came back off the post. Forth keeper Stefan McCurley was in top form, and made good saves from a Scobie shot and a Scott Banks headed attempt. Despite all of this pressure and a seemingly endless succession of corner kicks, Maryhill were unable to score. Although they rarely managed to get out of their own half, the visitors came close to taking the lead on two occasions. In the 28th minute a thundering free kick from Kevin Docherty hit the bar with Kevin Montgomery well beaten, then just before the break Montgomery made a good block after Gordon Murphy had been sent clear.
Half Time - Maryhill 0 Forth 0
The second half was a much more even affair, with Maryhill fading at times, and Forth seen more as an attacking force. John Currie headed narrowly over after connecting well with a Barry Canning cross, and the impressive Gordon Murphy was posing some problems for the Maryhill defence with his pace. Currie again had a good chance, but Montgomery managed to push away his goal bound shot. Maryhill hit back, and a fierce shot from Mark Stanley produced a top class stop from McCurley. The Forth keeper again saved the day for his team blocking a close range Paddy Gallagher shot. Gallagher again came close in the final minute, but his shot was just wide of the target. A minute into injury time Forth appeared to have secured their place in round 4 when sub Alan Cameron's low shot beat Montgomery, struck the post, and ended up in the net. Maryhill were not for conceding the game, however, and they equalised less than a minute later. In the increasingly dense fog Ryan Scobie's cut back was fired into the net by Paddy Gallagher via a Forth defender. A further three minutes of added time was still to be played, but neither side was able to find the winner.
