Clydebank  v. Maryhill
1 - 0

29th July 2009

A Gary Lynn penalty midway through the second half was enough to give Clydebank three points in a strangely tepid and tentative encounter, more reminiscent of a meaningless end of the the season affair, than the opening game of a new season.

The first incident of note was a yellow card for new Bankies signing Stevie Dallas, which  provoked predictable displeasure from certain sections of the vociferous, but always entertaining home support. Maryhill appeared to have taken the lead three minutes later when Brian Miller finished off a good move involving Ryan Scobie and Michael Tolland, but the enclosure side assistant correctly indicated that Miller had been in an offside position. The first real chance for Clydebank fell to another new recruit, but Steven Dymock miskicked around 12 yards from goal. A powerful 20 yard effort from Nikky Cairney was well  held by new Hill keeper Mark Wilson, and was the only other goal attempt worthy of the description in an even, but unispiring first half.

Half Time - Clydebank  0   Maryhill  0

The second period saw the home side dominate without seriously threatening a refreshingly sound looking Maryhill defence, in which new boys John Cunningham and Martin McGoldrick looked like they have the makings of a solid partnership. The only goal of the game arrived in the 63rd minute from the penalty spot. Stevie Dymock's strong run into the penalty area was halted when he was brought down by Mark Wilson. It was a clear penalty, although the striker did appear to handle the ball before being fouled. Gary Lynn's well struck spot kick gave Clydebank the lead which they held until the end.
